  2. CVB Ranking It is very easy to feel like an outsider here at the CVB because the staff members already have their “group” chosen and do not make any effort to get to know you. Not to mention that the two main “groups” do not get along and it is apparent on a weekly basis. Oftentimes, this clashing of groups makes the work environment very uncomfortable. However, I did learn a lot because tasks were given to me, often times with little direction, and I had to figure out the business on my own.

  5. Words of Wisdom My words of wisdom for Jeremy’s intern would be even though he tells you not to ask too many questions, do. Because if you do not, he will unintentionally leave out very important information that you need to know about your assignment and not knowing this information could have cataclysmic side effects to your event.

  6. Internship Objectives • To learn and understand how to run a large sporting event • To learn how to deal with unforeseen problems while running an event • To understand the value of sponsorships, what goes into getting sponsors to consider making donations, and how they are negotiated between parties. • How to pitch a sponsorship plan to prospective sponsors

  7. Daily Activities • Update the Sports BCS Facebook page with local sporting events in the area • Contact businesses to look for sponsors (year round and for AJGA) • Set up meetings with businesses to go over sponsorship opportunities • Attend Sponsorship meetings • Make/send sponsorship contracts • Find AJGA Volunteers

  8. Project Description Summary • When I first arrived at the Bryan College Station Convention and Visitors Bureau, I was given the task of finding food sponsors for not only AJGA, but for the three other main tournaments that the Convention and Visitors Bureau helps put on. First, I had to make a packet that prospective sponsors could look at. In the packet I included what each event was, how many people attended, who it benefited, what each sponsor would get in return and what each specific event was looking for food wise. I then created an additional packet that was targeted at business that were non-food related. After I found the sponsors I hammered out the details, made the contracts, and became their main contact for any questions. At AJGA, I was the main contact who helped them set up, told them where to go, and got them anything they needed. The other part of my project was to find volunteers for AJGA. I did this by using my student organization connections and social media such as Facebook or the internet.
