  3. Who are in the Diasporas? • Peoples who have been historically and geographically dispersed and scattered • Peoples “on the move” or who migrate across national boundaries due to various factors • Currently estimated at more than two hundred million people by the International Organization on Migration

  4. Lausanne I: The International Congress on World Evangelization Lausanne, Switzerland (July 1974) Lausanne Covenant becomes the global rallying point for evangelical missions and evangelism Lausanne II: International Congress on World Evangelization Manila, Philippines (July 1989) A review of how the Lausanne Covenant has been implemented since 1974 and a ringing affirmation of how it should be carried out in the future Lausanne III Congress on World Evangelization Cape Town, South Africa (October 2010) “the most representative gathering of Christian leaders in the 2000 year history of the Christian movement” (Christianity Today)

  5. Lausanne I: Ralph Winter shifted global mission strategy from a focus on political boundaries to a focus on distinct people groups. Winter argued that in addition to targeting countries, mission agencies needed to target the thousands of people groups worldwide, over half of which have not been reached with the gospel message. Lausanne II:Luis Bush first highlighted the need for a major focus of evangelism in the "Resistant Belt," covering the middle of the eastern hemisphere. Further research in mid-1990 led to the 10/40 Window concept, which contrasts the major needs and few resources devoted to this part of the world. Lausanne III : A groundbreaking evangelical declaration for world evangelization was crafted and finalized for Cape Town 2010. The “Seoul Declaration on Diaspora Missiology” summons the Whole Church of Jesus Christ, including its missions agencies and its academies…to mobilize, train, deploy, support, and empower Kingdom Workers for the various diasporas around the world.

  6. Diasporas into Global Cities • Biblically, the gospel spread via the cities of the Roman world. Astudy of the book of Acts shows the early church’s priority given to reaching out to cities. • Strategically, we know that commerce and culture flow through the cities. The flattening of the world has given large cities…. national influence and global linkages. • Globalization has caused large cities to be more similar rather than different around the world. Cities have become the destination of the Diasporas as peoples cross boundaries from the rural to the urban areas even as people move relentlessly to global cities. • The potential for the global Kingdom harvest represented by 21st Century cities is unparalleled due to the diversity of peoples coming to cities. But are we winning our cities for the Lord Jesus?
