Enterprise Architecture (EA) for ADE IT Definition and Roadmap Presented by Statera -Stephen Giffen -John Hannah -Mitch Talbott Refer to Attached Document 6
ADE IT Modernization Effort EA Problem Domain Organizational Challenges The challenges that ADE currently faces as an organization. • Customer • No offering of Software as a Service (SaaS) • Poor Performance • Ease of Access • Organization • Multiple Security Models • Duplication of Data • Silo’s of expertise • No Predictive Costing Model • Process • No SLA’s • Inconsistent 3rd Party Integration • Limited or No System Documentation • Data Access • Multiple Data storage platforms • Expensive to get data out • Not Standards compliant (CEDS etc)
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Problem Domain Technical Challenges Infrastructure • Post End of Life Infrastructure • Limited Monitoring • No Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) Software • Un-enforced Standards • No Source of Authority • No Common Resource Skillset • Limited or No Auditing • Limited System Knowledge • Limited or No System Documentation • Limited Common Functionality Performance • Poor Performance • No Service or Organizational Level Agreements (SLA or OLA) Data Access • Data Accuracy • Duplicate Data • Limited Data Mart • No Enterprise Data Warehouse • Limited or No public Ad hoc Reporting
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Definition Overview The target state of the ADE Enterprise Architecture will provide the following benefits • A high performance platform that offers diverse services to ADE’s clients • A standards driven data model that provides easy and consistent access to ADE data warehouses • An easy to maintain set of patterns and tools that target ADE skillset profiles
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Definition Reference Architecture A primary deliverable of the ADE EA is a Reference Architecture (RA) that provides the following components. • Reference Architecture • Reference Design • Reference Code Base
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Definition Process and Tooling The ADE EA includes a set of documentation that describes the ‘How To’ instructions and processes for resources to develop services from. In addition certain kinds of productivity tooling is provided to help ensure quality and standards are adhered too. • Environment Guidance • Development Guidance • Tooling • Code Snippets (Visual Studio IDE helpers) • Class and pattern Templates
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Definition Staff Profiles The type of resources that are needed to both develop and maintain services built on the ADE EA are taken into consideration. Target skillsets are defined and roles assigned to architectural components. • Profiles • Business • Application • Infrastructure
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Roadmap High Level Architecture Diagram (HLA)
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Roadmap Component Review
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Roadmap First Delivery State Affected Layers • Common • Entities Target Goal • To define the common Domain Model (Entities) for the enterprise at ADE. In addition, identify the common functions of the applications under the control of ADE. Benefits • The creation of a common way that all future systems and services will communicate with each other. This will simplify the needs of the database designers and remove the needs of the services exposed by ADE to have any internal knowledge of the business or rules in order to do their job. • A solid Domain Model is a necessity of any Enterprise architecture to function.
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Roadmap Second Delivery State Affected Layers • Common • Entities • Data Access • Monitoring Target Goal • To implement the Domain Model (Entities), the Common libraries for shared functionality, the Data Access components, and the Monitoring components. Benefits • A functioning Domain Model and the Data Access components necessary to move data into and out of the supporting data storage solutions (SQL). In addition the first version of a common enterprise library and the logging / monitoring features that will support future development.
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Roadmap Third Delivery State Affected Layers • Rules Engine • Business Logic • Services • Security • Applications: Internal Target Goal • The first application that is representative of the target architecture will be built. Benefits • A functioning application that can show business value under the new architecture. This application will be able to demonstrate(with hard data) the benefits to performance, maintainability, modularity, and distinct services to ADE. • This will also be the first time that ADE will be able to demonstrate a best practices security stack to its consumers both internal and externally.
ADE IT Modernization Update EA Roadmap Fourth Delivery State Affected Layers • Integration • 3rd Party Apps • Monitoring Target Goal • Provide externally visible services to partners and stakeholders. These services can be consumed in their applications to solve a particular business need or to provide data to ADE in order to it to complete its business responsibilities. Benefits • Provide the ability for external entities to consume services provided by ADE in order to solve their organizations needs. In addition this will provide a standard for all who wish to provide data to ADE.
Legislative Mapping Project Status Presented by Andrew Larson Refer to Attached Document 7
SAIS Business Payment Rules Legislative Mapping • Identify legislative citations for each SAIS business payment rules • 300 business rules found with matching state and federal legislative citations • New legislation discovered November 10 • Expected Wrap up week of November 21
