400 to 500 ce In the dark ages the Britain had ruled England until the Germanic people conquered the Britain. There were three main groups called the Saxons, Angles, and the Jutes. Well the Romans left and after 40 years of Britain defending they invite the jutes which eventually turn over and rule there kingdom. The kingdom of kent was made. Elle, a Saxon warlord who was in Sussex England killed all the Brits there and that became the kingdom of Sussex which the Saxons ruled. Another tribe of Saxons landed in the Kingdom of Wessexwere they battled. The Anglo-Saxons would only use close range weapons. They thought range weapons were cowardly.
500 to 600 ce The third and final tribe of the Saxons arrive east of London. Now the Angles finally venture over to North Humbria, completely avoiding the Saxons. About 20 years later the other two tribes land in East Anglia. Towards the end of the 6th century England is divided by 7 separate kingdoms between the Jutes, Saxons, and Angles. They spend much of there time fighting each other. In 597 pope sent Augustine to England to spread Christianity. The king of Kent converted to Christianity and from there they built a cathedral which was the center of the church of England.
600 to 700 ce In 601 Augustine became archbishop of Canterbury. There were three great kings who ruled all of England except Kent during this time. These three Northumbria kings were Ethelfrith, Edwin, and Egfrith. These kings all had there downfall by the end of the 7th century. During this time the Mericans became the most powerful kingdom filled with Angles.
700 to 800 ce Offa becomes king of Merica. He had a good trade and very religious relationship with Charlemagne. He also introduced the penny which you could use for trade. Built a huge earth dyke to defend England from the Britons. He was the first king of all England.
