Simile • Definition: Comparison of two things using like or as. • Ex. You are as dumb as a pole.
Hyperbole • Definition: Using exaggeration to gat a point across or show strong feeling. • Ex. Jalen is the smartest person in the world.
Alliteration • Definition: Is the repetition of the consonant sound in multiple words in a sentence. • Ex. Mrs. Shook spoke in Spanish in Spain to speak with the stupidest man on roller skates.
Metaphor • Definition: To compare to things without using like or as. • Ex. My brother is the devil.
Personification • Definition: You give human traits to a nonhuman figure. • Ex. The ice- cream smacked Aaron while he was trying to steal Shekijah’s ice-cream.
Onomatopoeia • Definition: Words that represent sound noises. • Ex. The car made a big bang/crash as it hit the 18 wheeler.
Idioms • Definition: Expressions that don’t mean what they actually say. • Ex. I’m so smart and cunning that I could rob a bank without anyone knowing anything.
Understatement • Definition: Expression with less strength than expected. • Ex. Oh, doing algebra is as easy as pie!
