  3. Symptoms • Disorganized Thinking • Can often be jumbled ideas/thoughts ; delusions • Disturbed Perceptions • Hallucinations ; mostly auditory • Inappropriate Emotions & Actions • A) No emotion • B) Showing emotion at inappropriate time

  4. Sub-types • Paranoid • Disorganized • Catatonic • Undifferentiated • Residual

  5. Genetic Factors • Evidence strongly suggests there IS a genetic predisposition • 1-in-100 odds of being diagnosed become 1-in-10 w/siblings or parents w/disorder

  6. Psychological Factors • “No environmental causes have been discovered that will invariably, or even with moderate probability, produce schizophrenia in persons who are not related to” a person with schizophrenia … • Does not cause schizophrenia within itself
