What is a tactic? • a system play/game plan • making the best of your strengths, skills and ablilities • exploiting weaknesses in the opposition. • Tactics often depend on the time left or the score of the game.
Tactics can depend on; Team • Physical qualities of players e.g. speed, height and strength • Personal qualities of players e.g. leadership skills, motivation or creativity. • System of play e.g. man to man or zone defence in basketball or in football 4-4-2 or 5-4-1.
Cont. Conditions • Weather • Surface Individual Adjusting play to personal or physical strengths e.g. strong forehand in badminton and weak backhand.
Some tactics • Tactics may include: • Creating space in offence wingers • Putting opposition under pressure depth in attack • Attacking areas of weakness in the opposition • Deceiving the opposition • Taking risks • Playing safe
Why change tactics? Tactics may be changed during play. • Not creating a successful outcome • The opposition know your tactic and are playing to combat it • Injury to one of the players within your own team • Changes in the oppositions team • You are winning and you want to run down the clock
