Wisconsin USDA Foods Program Upcoming Deadlines
School Year (SY) 2014-15 Upcoming Deadlines • SY 2014-15 Annual USDA Foods Order • SY 2014-15 Commercial Distribution
SY 2014-15 Annual USDA Foods Order • All School Food Authorities (SFAs) participating in the Wisconsin USDA Foods Program must place an annual USDA Foods order for the entire school year. • Typically, this annual USDA Foods order survey is placed in January - February timeframe for orders to be received the following school year. However, preliminary information provided by USDA has indicated that USDA is delaying the annual order survey deadlines. • Therefore, based on this preliminary information, the SY Wisconsin USDA Foods Annual Order Survey dates have been TENTATIVELY set as March 10, 2014 – April 8, 2014.
New Program Training • To prepare for the SY 2014-15 USDA Foods Annual Order Survey, DPI will be offering a training session specifically for new Food Service Staff and programs new to the USDA Foods program. • This training session will be held on Tuesday,February 11, 2014 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Department of Public Instruction, 125 S. Webster Street, Room P41, Madison, WI.
New Program Training • The training session will cover basic information regarding the USDA Foods program, as well as prepare SFAs for placing their SY 2014-15 annual USDA Foods order. • This session will cover the basics of planning for an annual order (i.e., what USDA Foods to order, the amounts to order, etc.). • Registration for this new program training session is online. The online registration is located under the “USDA Foods Program Training” section of the USDA Foods Program webpage at the following link: http://fns.dpi.wi.gov/fns_usdafoodtraining
SY 2014-15 Commercial Distribution • For SY 2014-15, SFAs will again have the option of selecting a commercial distributor for delivery of USDA Foods. • All SFAs will also have the option of continuing with the current state distribution method, where USDA Foods are delivered once per month via the state-contracted trucking company.
SY 2014-15 Commercial Distribution • Any SFA interested in using a commercial distributor for SY 2014-15 to deliver their USDA Foods MUST complete all of the following three steps by April 30, 2014: • Sign and submit back to DPI the contract between DPI and your SFA. • Following procurement regulations, sign a contract/agreement with one commercial distributor selected by your SFA. • Access the Wisconsin USDA Foods Ordering System and designate on the School Food Authority Contract Form for SY 2014-15 (Program Year 2015) which commercial distributor has been selected. • http://fns.dpi.wi.gov/files/fns/doc/commodityorderinst.doc

Introducing Community Eligibility • All students are offered both lunch and breakfast at no cost • Improves nutrition of students at risk • Higher federal reimbursement • Increases meal participation • Eliminates the application and verification process for meal rate categories, simplifying meal counting and claiming • Ease of use
To Qualify for CEP Participation • 40 percent or more of students are directly certified for free meals without household application (called Identified Students) • The district may choose to implement community eligibility in one school, a group of schools or district wide • Schools agree to provide free breakfasts and lunch to all students at no charge
