Workplace Violence Definition • OSHA defines workplace violence as violent acts (including physical assaults and threats of assaults) directed toward persons at work or on duty • Criminal Intent • Client/Patient/Customer • Co-worker • Personal
Workplace Violence Prevalence • US Bureau of Labor Statistics Data: • Workplace Violence fatalities • 2012 – 767 (17.5%) • 2011 – 791 (16.9%) • 2010 – 832 (17.7%) • Leading cause of death for women in the workplace • MA: 2,480 injuries resulting in an estimated 8,680 lost days of work (2012)
