CERN Travelling Exhibition • currently in Austria (Ökopark Hartberg, Styria) • extended with parts of the HEPHY exhibition to display Austria‘s involvement • extensive programme: • grand opening on February, 16th • several public talks • symposium in May: physicists discuss with philosophs, economists and journalists • student‘s days (for 6-18 year olds) in June (featuring the „7 Billionen Elektronenvolt Show“-Quiz) • ~2500 visitors/month so far Laurenz Widhalm

Victor Hess Year 2012 • planning has already started • many coordinated events in all Austria, organized by various institutes, over the whole year • four key events planned: • kick-off event in Vienna • historical-scientific symposium in Pöllau, combined with a balloon-ride event for the public • scientific event in Innsbruck, combined with guided tours for the public to Hess‘ lab on the Hafelekar • closing event at the annual meeting of the Austrian Physical Society in autumn Laurenz Widhalm

Klub ALF a new Programme for Physics Teachers • several participating institutes (besides particle physics also including nuclear physics, quantum optics, astronomy) • teachers are actively involved in scientific activities • the concept of the club is to create a sustainable link between educators and scientists • teachers are encouraged to give feedback on their experiences in class to the club • a kick-off event took place on 3rd March, we had the first Klub ALF masterclass at HEPHY on 21st March www.klub-alf.org Laurenz Widhalm Laurenz Widhalm 7

Klub ALF HEPHY course programme • a masterclass (more or less the IPPOG masterclass you know), which is prerequisite to attend the • Modules: • „The Search for Dark Matter“:our CMS analysis group demonstrates how LHC data is analysed „in the real physicist‘s life“ • „Particles from Space“:measurements on muons using scintillators • „Particle Detectors in Research and Everyday Life“:demonstrations in our semiconductor detectors lab www.klub-alf.org Laurenz Widhalm Laurenz Widhalm 8 8

  9. 3D movies • idea triggered by the fact that there is a 3D theater at the location of the CERN travelling exhibition in Hartberg • two productions: • a 1‘ trailer for the exhibition • a 15‘ movie „Inside_LHC“ (filmed during the LHC shutdown in January) • produced in theatrical quality (Digital Cinema Package, 2K resolution, 5.1 sound) • suitable for all available 3D technologies(anaglyphic, shutter & polarized goggles) exhibition trailer 15‘ movie Laurenz Widhalm
