  4. Projects • Projects require patience and creativity. • Don’t give up until it’s over with.

  9. Equipment and Tools • Machinists use a variety of tools • They must know their options • Safety is the MOST important key to machining • A select few of the tools and machines used are:

  10. Equipment- Machines • Lathes • Turn Metal to form an object of any desired shape • Drill Holes in the end of a piece of stock • Make threads • provide good finishes

  11. Equipment- Machines • Mills • Drills holes in both square and round stock • Mills the top of stock • Uses the end mill to mill from the side • can do work from several different angles • Variety of attachments- Vice, head, collets, etc… • Cuts grooves • provides a descent finish

  13. Equipment- Machines • Bandsaw • cut bigger pieces of stock • not a “finishing” machine • rough cuts

  14. Equipment- Machines • Surface grinder • A finishing machine • provides a variety of finishes depending on the grinding wheel • Only take off two thousandths of an inch

  15. Equipment- Machines • Wheel Grinder • removes burrs from stock • grind down stock and screws

  16. Equipment- Tools Tap & Die Center Finder & Edge Finder Circular vice

  17. Equipment- Tools Starter Bit Dial Indicator End Mill
