SLC and JAVA announcement (1/2) • Please note the decisions that have been taken in BE/CO regarding the operational versions of Linux and Java for 2012: • Linux: • SLC6-64bit on all the operational consoles (CCC and other controls rooms) • SLC5-32bit on all the back-end servers (Proliants). • SLC4 servers will be upgraded to SLC5. • There are some exceptions of server machines running SLC5-64bit. • Java 6 will remain the operational Java platform everywhere, with 64bit versions on the consoles, and 32bit versions on the servers. We will *NOT* upgrade to Java 7. • Please note that BE/CO is not in a position to provide any support for different Linux or Java versions. P.Charrue - BE/CO - LBOC
SLC and JAVA announcement (2/2) • Java developers who haven’t done so yet are encouraged to test their applications before the shutdown, especially if they are using native libraries through JNI or other mechanisms. • They can do so on the following consoles which are already configured for 2012: CWO-CCC-A4LC (SPS), CWO-CCC-B2LC (Booster), CWO-CCC-D9LC (LHC), CWO-193-AD2 (AD Control Room). • Two machines are available in the center of 936, and we are ready to convert local consoles of equipment groups too. • If you notice problems or are in general worried that your operational software will not run on the above platforms, please let me know. • These decisions are taken based on technical constraints of keeping the risk to the operational software to the minimum. • They have been validated by a testing campaign and discussions involving developers and OP users, and were approved by the CO Technical Committee. • More information can be found here: http://indico.cern.ch/conferenceDisplay.py?confId=159593 and http://wikis/display/COIN/SLC6 P.Charrue - BE/CO - LBOC
