  2. Objective • To determine whether Cancer Data from Multi Disciplinary Teams can be used to enhance the data held by the Welsh Cancer Intelligence & Surveillance Unit Can Data from MDTs be used to Enhance Cancer Registration Data?

  3. Background • First All Wales Cancer Register 1972 • Re-named WCISU 1997 to reflect the functions of the Unit • Full Member of the United Kingdom Association of Cancer Registries and the European Network of Cancer Registries Can Data from MDTs be used to Enhance Cancer Registration Data?

  4. Purpose Our primary aim is the systematic collection, analysis and dissemination of information about cancer incidence, mortality and survival within the resident population of Wales. Can Data from MDTs be used to Enhance Cancer Registration Data?

Potential Benefits of MDT Data • Addition source of treatment details not available from other sources: • Hormone therapy • Detailed Radiotherapy • Detailed Chemotherapy • Staging data enabling stage specific survival: reduction in manual effort by WCISU staff • Increased confidence in data received directly from Clinical staff Can Data from MDTs be used to Enhance Cancer Registration Data?

  7. What did we do? Three exercises: • Raw Canisc data was assessed to identify any possible data anomalies and initial matching undertaken against WCISU database. Can Data from MDTs be used to Enhance Cancer Registration Data?

  20. Further Work • Ongoing work with the Cancer Information Framework and Data Quality manager. • Ongoing work with the Lung Cancer Group to identify differences in case ascertainment, to be used as a model for other cancer sites. Can Data from MDTs be used to Enhance Cancer Registration Data?

Further Work (2) • Work closely with CIF team to ensure that new datasets approved by WIGSB are aligned to existing definitions used by WCISU. • Contribute to the training of MDT co-ordinators to ensure their understanding of medical terminology of cancer data.
