  3. What is scientology? • Developed by L. Ron Hubbard • “Scientology offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, Mankind, all life forms, the material universe, the spiritual universe and the Supreme Being.” • Addresses the spirit, not the body or mind. • Belief that Man is more important than a product of his environment, or his genes. • - Thetan: referred to as their immortal soul

  4. Three fundamental truths • Man is an immortal spiritual being. • His experience extends well beyond a single lifetime. • His capabilities are unlimited, even if not presently realized.

  5. How do scientologists conceive the self? • Scientologists conceive the self as immortal. • Immortal- not subject to death. • They believe to be immortal because they address the spirit of the person and they do not put emphasis on the body or mind.

  6. How do scientologists conceive afterlife? • Scientologists believe in immortality, so they believe that the person’s soul lives on after physical death in the form of reincarnation. • Scientologists do not believe in heaven or hell because they do not focus on the body or mind, just the soul of the person. • They believe that the soul lives on through others for years after physical death. • There are formal ceremonies for the passing of fellow Scientologists with funeral rites to remember the soul.

  7. Disposal of Body After Death • Since Scientology does not focus on a person’s physical being or body, there is no written code in the religion for proper disposal of a body. • A scientologist can be buried or cremated if they desire after death, this is not too important because there soul will still live on.

  8. Ultimate Goal… • “The ultimate goal of Scientology is true spiritual enlightenment and freedom.”
