Digestive system • Breaks down food into simple forms so that they can be absorbed by the body.
Circulatory system • Carry digested food and oxygen to all parts of the body. • Carries waste materials away from all parts of the body to be removed.
Respiratory system • To exchange gases with the surroundings.
Muscular system • Works with the skeletal system to help the body to move.
Skeletal system • Support the body. • Give the body shape. • Protects the important organs. • Works with the muscular system to help us move.
Mouth • Teeth in the mouth cut and grind the foo into smaller pieces. • Tongue mixes food with saliva. • Saliva digest part of the food
Gullet • Pushes balls of food from the mouth to the stomach.
Stomach • Churns (mix vigorously) food and mixes it with digestive juice to digest some of the food. • A good analogy of the stomach would be the washing machine. • The food is just like the clothes in the washing machine. It is being toss around in the machine.
Small intestine • Mixes the food with digestive juices to complete the digestion of food. • Absorb the digested food through its walls/walls of the small intestine.
Large intestine • Absorb water from the undigested food. • Temporarily stores undigested food and passes it out through the anus.
Human digestive system summary Digestion starts in the mouth. Digestion ends in the small intestine.
