2. What is CARES? Cares is a place where children and adolescents who are considered at risk for maltreatment and/or neglect can receive a comprehensive medical and emotional evaluation to assess for the child/adolescent�s well being. Trained individuals render this evaluation. This evaluation is focused on the child and the child is the first priority of the evaluation

3. What is CARES? cont. The comprehensive evaluation should include 3 essential elements� 1. Forensic Interview-history gathering from the child 2. Medical Evaluation 3. Psychosocial Assessment with the family

4. Forensic Interviewing�Neutral Fact Finders� The identification, collection and preservation of verbal evidence by trained interviewers with knowledge and experience of talking with children.

5. Forensic Interviewing Non-judgmental Truth Seeking/Legally Sound Without Preconceptions Non-Interpretative Non-Coercive; Neutral in Tone Accurate, Credible, Complete Information Precise Documentation AND�to do so without Compromising accuracy Undermining credibility of: the child, the investigative process or the data received Increasing trauma to the child
