The theory of continental drift and the movement of the tectonic plates are also very important in geological oceanography. “Seafloor spreading is the theory that explains how the floors of oceans had split apart and rocks on either side of the ridges are moving away from each other”

Continental Drift and Plate Tectonics Continental drift and plate tectonics go together. Plate tectonics explains how Pangaea became all the continents we know today.
