Biome: • A group of ecosystems with similar temperatures and precipitation or salinity and water depth • Two Types: • Terrestrial – Land Based • Aquatic – Water Based
Terrestrial Biome • Types are determined by the amount of precipitation and the average temperature
Temperature Zones: • Three temperature zones that go from warm at the equator to cold at the polar regions
Marine Biomes: • Two major classifications are marine (salt water) and freshwater
Tropical Rain Forest • Forest in tropical region with large amounts of rainfall
Deciduous Forest: • Found in temperate regions and characterized by broad leaf, deciduous trees
Coniferous Forest • Forest closer to the poles, characterized by evergreens, sometimes called or similar to the taiga
Savannas: • Found in or just outside tropical regions with precipitations mostly occurring over a period of a couple months
Tundra: • Treeless plan that is frozen most of the year and gets little rainfall
Desert: • An arid region with little to no precipitation, can be hot or cold
Oceans: • Open ocean, deep water and high salinity
Coral Reefs: • Coastal ocean, shallow water, and high salinity
Estuaries: • Regions where salt water meets freshwater, like the Chesapeake Bay
Freshwater: • Includes ponds, streams, rivers, and lakes
