CIVIL LAWS • Concerned with disputes between people or groups in which no criminal laws have been broken • Examples: family law, lawsuits, breach of contract, personal injury
CRIMINAL LAW • Seek to protect people and their property • People or group is charged with a crime • Two types • Crimes against people • Crimes against property • Robbery, larceny, burglary, murder, assault • Government is always the plaintiff
ADMINISTRATIVE LAW • REFERS TO THE RULES AND REGULATIONS THAT THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH CREATES AND CARRIES OUT • FCC, FAA, EEOC, OSHA- THEIR RULES ARE ADMINISTRATIVE LAW
INTERNATIONAL LAW • Laws and agreements made by and followed by multiple countries • NATO, United Nations, Interpol, NAFTA
CONSTITUTIONAL LAW • Deals with the formation, construction and interpretation of our constitution. • Protects our basic liberties and rights from government power • Court cases: Brown, Mapp, Gideon
