Marine Oily Handling Devices and Pollution Prevention Chapter 6 Lesson 7 DVZ-oily water separator
6.7 DVZ-oily water separator • Significant features: • DVZ - JET WASH oil drainage • Self-cleaning with sea water using a reversible pump • Automatic electrode cleaning DBGM 8404946 • Utilization of the adhesion tendency of oil to aid separation • Diversion of the coalesced dispersion into the pre-separation chamber and not back to the bilge
6.7 DVZ-oily water separator
6.7 DVZ-oily water separator • The DVZ-VC-"OILMASTER" is a combinated gravity coalescence oil separator. • To avoid unnecessary mechanical emulsions the oil separation pump draws mixture from the bilge or bilge water tanks through the oil separator. The oil-water mixture enters the oil separator dome from above. • This had the advantage that free components of oil are deposited with water and form a buffer. • The oil-water mixture subsequently entering flows through this buffer, which thus constitutes the primary separation Stage because, as is well-known, more and more particles bind with one another due to the adhesion properties of the oil. • Even suspended matter which is heavier than water finds it difficult to penetrate this oil buffer. • The preseparated mixture then flows down to the bottom of the oil separator.
6.7 DVZ-oily water separator • Suction pipe from bilge/bilge tank Al The suction height incl. losses due to friction in the pipes should not exceed 6 mtr. • A non return valve must be fitted at the suction point in the bilge/bilge tank. • A coarse filter with appr. 2mm perforations should be fitted close before entering into separator. • When the system is put into operation for the first time, facilities should be provided for topping up the suction pipe. • The pipe connections must be absolutely vacuum tight. • When using heavy fuel oil with high viscosity, the bilge tank should be heated.
