Curriculum, Instruction and Instructional Technology (CIIT) • Integration of Middle Level Education into CIIT to enhance content area input and expertise. • Within the Regents P-16 Initiative, action step number 6 includes the revisitation of the learning standards. • The P-16 paper can be accessed at: www.oms.nysed.gov/comm/2006/1006commrep.html • Literacy program with District Superintendents
Career and Technical Education (CTE) • Perkins re-authorization as Perkins IV. • Perkins can be used in the 7th and 8th grades. Applied learning can be an innovative approach to enhance middle level education and student performance. • Interim State Plan by April 16, 2007 with a final five-year plan due by April 2008. Public hearings and input will be solicited between December 2007 and February 2008.
New York State Summer Institutes(NYSSSA) • Eight programs in the areas of ballet, dance, choral, jazz, orchestra, theater, visual arts, and media arts. • Auditions for the summer 2007 program begin in January 2007. • Students in grades 8 through 12 are eligible to apply. http://www.emsc.nysed.gov/nysssa/si.shtml
Bilingual Education and Foreign Language Studies (OBEFLS) • Fourteen BETACs (Bilingual Education Technical Education Centers) throughout the state to serve approximately 200,000 LEP/ELL students. • Develops and improves NYSESLAT with the Office of State Assessment (OSA). • Manages State and Federal (Title III) funds for LEP students.
