Principal Validation Form • Primary Intent: To involve administrators in supporting students and special education teachers in the WAAS-Portfolio process. • Secondary Intent: To encourage teachers and their administrators to examine student evidence for appropriate content/activities not only for the student, but also forthe portfolios’ presentation as astate-level, high stakes assessment. "Appropriate" Evidence Reminders • All topics, details, facts, stories, essays, schedules, forms, and word choices must be appropriate for the student. • No student or teacher materials can relate to violence, ethnic stereotyping, or personal habits or hygiene, etc. • No social security numbers or other sensitive, personal student information should be used on any student evidence. • This state level, high stakes assessment should contain student evidence that is sensitive to the student as well as the test readers/scorers. • Teachers and their administrators should use discretion in the items they submit for scoring. Extenuating Circumstances for Data Collection Extenuating Circumstance Form: • Does notexcusestudent reluctance to participate in classroom activities or assessment. • Does notwaivethe assessment requirement (e.g., AYP or graduation requirements) • Does notexcuse excessive absences or should be submitted for absenteeism • Does not allowfor teacher procrastination Olympia ESD 11.18.10

“Indicate” Level of Complexity • The indicate extensions should be used with very few students. • Indicate is to be used with students who use objects to communicate. • These students are only able to answer “yes” and “no” questions. • If the student can communicate using pictures, extensions with greater cognitive complexity should be used. Olympia ESD 11.18.10
Student Evidence Check • ONLY one (1) Entry Cover Sheet for each TS. • Student’s full name is on each piece of evidence. • Dates (M/D/Y) ison each piece of evidence. • Each piece of student evidence is graded/corrected by the teacher. • Original Individual Student Work is submitted. • Although photocopied worksheets can be used, individual student footprints must be clearly obvious on each piece of student evidence. • A student footprint is the student attempt at the work. • A blank worksheet with no student attempt/footprint will not be accepted as valid evidence. HS Science Entries • Science is a graduation requirement for this year’s 10th graders. • Science should be included in each 10th grade portfolio for scoring this Spring (2011). • Any 10th grader who does not submit or pass science this year, will need to submit next year as an 11th grader. • New HS science extensions for the 2011-2012 assessment and published summer 2011. • Do not include science evidence for the 11th and 12th grade portfolios this Spring (2011).
