History of Turks in Germany • After World War II, a devistated German economy needed a labor force (encouraged to do work Germans did not want to do) • Germany signed bill with Turkey to allow Turks to come to Germany • Turks played key role in re-building Germany • Turks could not bring their families in the 70s

  4. Today in Germany • Many of the Turks now see Germany as their home • Since the 1960‘s the population has grown to more than 2 million • Turks now have started many business including resturants, various shops and gas stations.

  5. Aging Society - Will bring more labor Shrinking population Declining birthrate Severe labor shortages Will take away jobs from current Germans Will take away from the social welfare system Pros and cons of Immigration
