Fifth Grade Block Schedule • Mondays - Thursdays • Fifth grade is semi-departmentalized. • This means that your child is taught by different teachers for each subject. • Focus Fridays • Fridays, students rotate through all the classes to work on • targeted skills in fun, hands-on activities. • Students also have blocks of poetry and art.

  4. Attendance and Tardies • Please make sure that your child comes to school every • day possible. • If your child misses school, the office will need a WRITTEN note explaining the absence in order to excuse it. • If your child is absent two days in a row, we will call and touch base with you. • If your child arrives to school late, you must walk them • to the office to sign them in appropriately.

  5. Homework Reading You are expected to read and/or respond to your reading every Monday through Thursday. You have a Homework Journal in your binder that has the format and guidelines. The journal should remain in your binder and travel to home and return to school every day. Math You have a daily assignment every Monday through Thursday. Be sure that the assignment goes home and return on their due dates. Spelling You will be given a new Tic-Tac-Toe every Monday. Each day you need to do at least one of these activities. The Tic-Tac-Toe will be due every Thursday. This should all be done in your Homework Journal.

STAAR • State Assessment • STAAR will include the following elementary school • assessments: • Reading, Math and Science • What’s different about STAAR? • STAAR will include more difficult testing methods and require a higher level of student performance. There will also be a four-hour time limit for the STAAR grades 3–8 assessments. • The state has released specificity about the expectations of • 5th grade in terms of what is needed for promotion to 6th • grade.

  8. MPE is a TITLE school • Funding provided for • special programs • additional support teachers • supplies • Parent nights

  9. Parent- Teacher • Conferences • It is an expectation that a parent-teacher conference occur within the month of October. • Please sign up for a conference before you leave today.
