This presentation is part of Vision Australia’s Customer Service Training Program. It has been designed to stand alone. However trainers may wish to prepare by reading Vision Australia’sTrainers Resource Manual and customer service fact sheet, available at www.visionaustralia.org.au/ourservices/community education
How long does the presentation take? Trainers can tailor their delivery of this program to the time they have. If you don’t include the four activities, the program takes about 10 to 15 minutes. You will need to add another 10 minutes for each activity.
Can other tools help with my presentation? Equipment to enhance this presentation is available from Vision Australia by phoning 1300 VISION (1300 847 466) or go to www.visionaustralia.org.au/factsheets&resources/promotionalmaterial You can give participants a better idea of what it might be like to be vision impaired using eye cards with peepholes that simulate the five most common eye conditions.Simulation masks to show the wearer what it might be like to have a vision impairment are also available from Vision Australia, plus signature guides.
Language: always use people who are blind and vision impaired rather than blind people. By stating people first you show that people with disabilities are people first.Trainer’s notes:
