  2. Mixed Media Essay Title: Is the internet destroying the music industry? Research Question: Do people prefer a hard copy of music or a digital version? Email: sf202@canterbury.ac.uk

  3. Why the Internet and Music? I have great fondness of the internet and its developments and wanted to write an essay in this area. After completing my first mixed media research methods 2011/12 performa and my first chunk, I found it very hard to find an essay question and title. Last year I wrote an essay on the internet being monopolised by companies such as Google and Facebook and decided I wanted to go down this path for my essay. I knew I couldn't just re-write that essay again, so I needed to come up with a new area which I could research into for this one. It was only when I spoke to my friends about what I wanted to research and what I enjoyed writing about, that they suggested going into the music industry and doing an essay on that for my dissertation. I then came up with a selection of different questions and titles for my dissertation that I could use and finally I came up with the one I have now. So I shall be going forward with this title, I feel like this title also suits me and I will be able to tackle this essay successfully and to the best of my abilities.

  4. Areas to Include Areas in my essay I will include and need to mention which have effected the music industry tremendously: Itunes Steve Jobs Music deal Napster LimeWire YouTube YouTube Converters Google Spotify CD Burning + Sharing Torrents File Sharing These are some of the main areas of which I will talk about but there will be more to join the list.

  5. My Approach My approach to this essay will start off with Itunes and Steve Jobs and how this started off the music industry in the new digital age of selling music digitally to your computer which could then be put on your mp3. I will go on to talk about how Steve Jobs got music companies and artists to contract themselves to selling there music through Itunes. I will also mention about software companies such as Napster and LimeWire which sell music to customers completely free of charge. Which is very illegal but people still do and use these sites on a daily basis. Other companies such as Spotify allow users to listen to music for free but not download unless you become a customer and pay. YouTube is also another form of music player but an online version which allows users to listen and view music videos completely free. Other areas to go into are YouTube converters, File Sharing, CD Burning, Torrents and Google. These are all different ways of which you are able to access music without paying and get your music downloaded to your computer easily and simply.
