  1. In general, power cable manufacturers test their cables and wires prior releasing them to the market. However, for longer life, they suggest users to perform routine tests to determine faults and fix them on time. There are two key reasons for testing cables: 1.To know the condition of the cable 2.To find a fault on the cable In this post, you will learn about the systematic approach for both cases. The reason for cable testing is to check the cable quality before installing it, or to determine defects in the cable. If these defects remain untreated, users may not avail reliable performance. You can take help of nondestructive method to test the cable using dielectric diagnosis and partial discharge techniques. Cables having PE and XLPE insulation can be tested on the basis of IRC analysis that further helps in determining the age of cable. With RVM analysis, you can access the dielectric moisture content. Partial discharge measurement is used for locating, recording and evaluating paral discharges in the fittings and insulation of medium-voltage cables. Such analysis helps in revealing wide range of potential and actual defects.

  2. There are five key categories for determining cable fault locations- Fault classification Pre-location Route tracing Pin pointing Cable identification Fault classification- determining the fault type Pre-location- identifying the distance to the fault Route tracing – determining the cable route Pinpointing – finding the exact fault position Cable identification- finding which cable is faulty When you decide to use particular pre-location method, you must have precise knowledge about the resistance and the phase relation of the fault. You must be able to record the results of the resistance and distance measurements. A sketch often assists with evaluation. To know more techniques to find faults in cables, contact power cable manufacturers and ask them about the same. There are manufacturers that provide manual guide and tips to maintain power cables for longer time. For sharing your thoughts and reviews about this post, drop your comments in below section.
