MLC CAD Systems Introducing… WCS Overview Presented by: John McCord
WCS & Planes • What is the WCS?(Working Coordinate Systems) • When to use? • How to set? • How to Apply!
What is the WCS • 3D Cartesian coordinate system • Representative of machine workoffset • Establishes the origin and orientation of our part
What is the WCS The coordinate system that we create using WCS tools can be applied to “Toolplane” and “Construction Plane” as well! (It’s just a coordinate system)
When to use? 3 Axis Parts / Machines • Parts with multiple operations • Allows you to Program all sides of the part in one Mastercam file • Better file organization • One MCX file per part • Visibility during verify to see mistakes • Work Offset Control
When to use? 4 / 5 axis Positioning Cuts • VMC with A rotary axis • HMC with Pallet • VMC with 2 axis trunnion • Multitasking Lathes • Etc…
When to use? WCS manipulation is not necessary for Multiaxis Toolpaths.
How to set? • WCS View Manager • Use to create new Coordinate Systems • Set current WCS, Cplane or Toolpane • Example: • PROGRESSIVE.MCX-6
How to set? Use these menus to apply different coordinate systems.
How to set? • Apply WCS in Toolpaths
How to Apply! Follow these rules when deciding how to set WCS / Cplane / Tplane • If the operator is moving the part from one position to another, we create a new WCS for each position. • If the machine is rotating the part to a new position, and each position uses the same work offset, keep the WCS the same for all operations.
How to Apply! Follow these rules when deciding how to set WCS / Cplane / Tplane • If rule one is true, Tplane always matches the WCS, if rule two is true the toolplane is equivalent to the rotational angle we want to achieve.
How to Apply! Follow these rules when deciding how to set WCS / Cplane / Tplane • Cplaneis always equivalent to the Tplane.
