Establishing Collaboration with Academic Affairs An Overview of the OSU Multicultural Center Collaborative Grant Program
Background • Established when MCC dual reported to Academic and Student Affairs • Purpose: To facilitate true collaboration and promote academic initiatives
Process & Key Components • Academic partnership • Collaborate with a professor and have students in class be required to attend • Have a professor facilitate a discussion with program participants • Professor involved in program development • Collaboration with MCC staff • From the beginning of the process through evaluation • Staff should be providing active input
Process & Key Components • Relationship to MCC mission, values, and bi-annual theme • Other funding sources • Collaborative Grant is not intended to be sole funding source • Must apply at least 45 days prior to the date of the program • Application initially reviewed by me. Often revised and then sent to a full committee for review
Successes • New and interesting programs • Facilitates connections with academic partners • Developing intercultural collaborations with students and other units • Potential for these relationships to develop beyond the grant
Challenges • Adherence to deadlines • Working with students • Understanding of the intercultural model and meaning of collaboration • Outreach to groups
