  3. Objective • Outline every major and minor discrepancy through comparison between manuscript and editions • Determine Liszt’s intentions for the composition though research • Create a scholarly edition, including commentary

  4. Rationale • Why is a scholarly edition important?

  5. Methods • Scrutinize and note discrepancies found between the manuscript and the Henle Urtext and Edito Musica Budapest editions • Travel to the Irving S. Gilmore Music Library, Yale University, for further clarification • Manual input of notes and Liszt’s annotations using “Finale” software • Research and commentary (to be included in edition) • Learn and perform from my scholarly edition
