John demonstrated that his life was all about Jesus • “I am not the Christ but am sent ahead of him.” • John 3:28b • “He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.” • John 1:27 • “A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.. the reason I came.. was that he might be revealed to Israel.” • John 1:30-31

6. John was determined • Zechariah was filled with the Holy Spirit.. “And you, my child, will be called a prophet of the Most High; for you will go on before the Lord to prepare the way for him”…And the child grew and became strong in spirit.. • Luke 1:67-80

8. John died • The king was distressed, but because of his oaths and his dinner guests, he had John beheaded in the prison. • Matthew 14:9-10
