Cellular Exchange • Just like all living things, cells need to eat, drink, and get rid of waste in some way. • Since cells don’t really have mouths, they use their cell membrane to exchange nutrients with their environment. Video
Diffusion • The movement of substances from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration.
Diffusion • From a lot to a little. Video
Osmosis • The diffusion of water through a semi-permeable membrane or cell membrane. Video
Osmosis • From a lot to a little through a semi-permeable membrane. Video
Passive Transport • The movement of particles through a membrane without the use of energy.
Passive Transport • Osmosis w/out the use of energy. Video
Active Transport • The movement of particles through a membrane using energy.
Active Transport • Osmosis that requires the use of energy to occur. Video
Endocytosis • The cell membrane surrounds a particle and encloses it in a vesicle for transport into the cell.
Endocytosis • Endo means In.
Exocytosis • Vesicles are formed at the ER or Golgi complex and carry particles to the cell membrane, then out of the cell.
Exocytosis • Exo means Out.
