Results Just Out • The GMC have just released the results of the 2011 Trainer Survey. • The overall response rate was 45%. • A sample of the key results on how well Trainers in Wales are supported in comparison to the rest of the UK as well as your local ranking are contained within these slides. • The GMC will be releasing the results on their online reporting tool shortly and we will let you know when these are available.
GP Trainer Supervision The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score looks at whether you consider there to be any barriers to supervising your trainees. • Out of all UK Deaneries, Wales ranked 3rd with 62% of you indicating that your workload was appropriate for provision of adequate supervision. • Your local ranking within Wales is illustrated by the red dot on the opposite graph.
Deanery Structure & Process The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • You gave your feedback on whether the Deanery has effective structures and processes to manage a trainee in difficulty. • Out of all UK Deaneries, Wales was ranked 3rd with 93% of you reporting that the Deanery structure and processes were effective.
Training Programme Structure & Process The National Perspective:- Your 2011 Local Ranking In Wales:- • The score looks at whether trainers are aware of the structures and processes in place for managing a trainee in difficulty, in their particular programme. • Out of all UK Deaneries, Wales was ranked 3rd with 94% of you reporting that the training programme structures and processes were effective.
Training Support The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score considers your perception of how supported you feel in your training role. • Out of all UK Deaneries, Wales ranked 10th with 58% of you indicating that your Primary Care Trust (PCT) was supportive of training.
Time: Actual Vs Contracted Hours The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score looks at the extent to which your are spending un-contracted timeon educational activity. • Out of all UK Deaneries, Wales was ranked 10th with a score slightly below that of the national average. Please note, a lower ranking for this score is more positive; as although there is a degree of reliance on your goodwill to train, other UK Deanery GP trainers replied that more un-contracted hours are spent on training than in the Wales Deanery.
Trainee Assessment The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score demonstrates your understanding of your trainees curriculum outcomes. • Wales ranked 3rd out of all UK Deaneries although 97% of you agreed that you had sufficient knowledge of your trainees performance to be able to give an accurate assessment.
Educational Supervisor Appraisal The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score indicates the percentage of trainers who had been appraised for their educational responsibilities. • Wales ranked 15thout of all UK Deaneries with just 67% of all GP Trainers indicating that they had been appraised for their educational role.
Sharing Knowledge or Good Practice The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score is an assessment of how supported you feel in your role. • Wales ranked 4th out of all UK Deaneries for all GP Trainers with 94% of you reporting that you received the information you needed from the person responsible for managing training.
Role Awareness The National Perspective:- Your 2011 Local Ranking In Wales:- • The score indicates trainers understanding of their role in the training and assessment of trainees. • Wales ranked 14thout of all UK Deaneries with:- • 93% of you indicating that you were clear about your roles and responsibilities. • The extent to which trainers are aware of the necessary curriculum outcomes by grade was:- • 99% GP Trainees. • 85% GP Returners. • 78% Foundation.
WPBA Impediment The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score considers those factors which impede on an assessment in the workplace. • Wales ranked 7thout of all UK Deaneries with:- • 66% of you reporting that there was a lack of time during the working day to undertake Workplace-Based Assessments. • 29% of you reporting difficulties in recording Workplace-Based Assessments (e.g. e-portfolio, etc.).
Training vs Service Demands The National Perspective:- Your 2011 Local Ranking In Wales:- • The score considers the impact that service demand has on training provision. • Wales ranked 9thout of all UK Deaneries with 14% of you reporting that service demands meant that trainees were unable to take advantage of clinical learning opportunities.
Attitude To EWTD Compliance The National Perspective:- Your 2011 local ranking in Wales:- • The score considers whether trainers are EWTD compliant. • Wales ranked 6thout of all UK Deaneries with:- • 95% of you reporting that EWTD requirements still enabled the trainees’ development needs to be met. • 33% of you reporting that you had changed the way you teach in response to rota changes and shorter working weeks. • 48% of you stating that training COULD be delivered to the same standard on a compliant rota.
