  1. Sample Introduction: ColleaguesWhy Talk About End of Life Care? DID YOU KNOW...? • 73% of Americans would prefer to die at home, but anywhere between 20-50% of Americans die in hospital settings. • As many as 50% of dying persons with cancer or other chronic illnesses experience unrelieved symptoms during their final days. Furthermore, recent studies demonstrate an increased likelihood of depressive symptoms and mortality among caregivers of terminally ill patients. • According a NY Times article, Dr. John E. Wennberg of Dartmouth Medical School, the chief author of the study, said doctors and hospitals that provided more care, or more intensive care, did not necessarily achieve better results for patients. He stated, “Some chronically ill and dying Americans are receiving too much care – more than they and their families actually want or benefit from” Talk to your loved ones, find out their wishes, Engage with Grace: www.engagewithgrace.org engagewithgrace.org The One Slide Project
