Features • Mostly around the equator • Rain Forests cover approximately 6% of Earth’s land surface • There are 3 main layers to the Rain Forest • Canopy: Top most layer, 25-45 meters high, home to birds and monkeys. • Understory: Middle layer, home to some amphibians and reptiles like snakes and chameleons. • Ground: Self explanatory, layer where most insects live. Decomposers of all kinds also call this layer home.

  3. Temperature • Wet, tropical climate • Temperature rarely goes over 93◦F • Humidity is average is between 77-88% • Rainfall is more than 100in. a year! • Monsoonal areas have periodical dry seasons • Almost all rain forests are near the equator

Plant Types • More than 2/3 of the Earth’s plant species are found in Tropical Rain Forests • Plants live in warm, humid environment that allows a huge variety of plants rare in more mild climates • Plants are spread out between 3 main layers of the Rain Forest • Plants consist of ferns, broadleaved shrubs, dwarf bombs, carnivores plants, orchids, strangler fig, and others • Over 300 species of trees
