Bentonite clays ▢Rocks formed from altered volcanic ashes. ▢Bentonite clays are rich in smectite minerals.
Applications • ▢ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION • Na-enriched clays: adsorption of radioactive ions from water (Sr2+); • Organomodified clays: adsorption of toxic metals (Pb2+, Cd2+, Ni2+), radioactive ions (TcO4-), azo dyes; simultaneous adsorption of organic and inorganic pollutants • Pillared clays: catalytic degradation of phenol, toluene, and azo dyes; • ▢ELECTROCHEMICAL SENSORS • Organomodified and pillared clays: toluene, phenol detection. • ▢ GEOTEXTILE COMPOSITE • Geosynthetic clay liners. • ▢POROUS NANOCOMPOSITES • ▢ENZYMES IMMOBILIZATION • Na-enriched, organomodified and pillared clays: invertaze immobilization.
Active carbons– recommended from US EPA for textile wastewater treatment. • Used two commercially active carbons: Vulcanand Kemika Environmental protection - adsorption AO10 AY 99 RB 5 2.0 HDTMA-B →more efficient for adsorption acid dyes than selected active carbons!!!
