THE ROMAN PERIOD OF ZARAGOZA • It lasted five centuries, more or less: from 15 bC, to year 472 aD. • It was called Caesaraugusta, in honour of Octavio Augusto emperor, his founder. • The city had got a beautiful roman forum, hot baths, a roman amphitheatre, and the most important river port of the Iberian peninsula. Now, theyare only some beautiful ruins. • The Ebro river was called Iberus.

THE MUSLIM PERIOD OF ZARAGOZA • It lasted 4 centuries: from 711 aC to 1118 aD. • It was called Saraqusta, a beautiful arabic name which derived from Caesaraugusta, the Roman name. • The city had got wonderful mozarabic districts, a market place and a beautiful palace called `La Aljafería´, which was made because of love. • Arab people entered the city by nine important gates, like Cinegia´s Gate or Portillo´s Gate.
SARAQUSTA: THE MUSLIM CITY The orange zone is the jewish quarter. The purple zone is the market square. The pink zone is the mozarab quarter. The grey zone is the `almusara´. The light pink zone are `arrabales´, neighbourhoods out of the city walls.
THE MEDIEVAL PERIOD OF ZARAGOZA • It lasted four centuries more or less: from 1118aC to 1492 aD. • It was called Çaragoça when Alfonso I the Fighter conquered the city and the Ebro river already rreceived its current name. • In the medieval Çaraçosa, Moorish, Jewish and Christian people lived together, so Saraqusta was an impotant and cultivated city in the Iberian peninsula. • The city didn´t change too much, but in 1118 aC the city was conquered by Alfonso I the Fighter, and Çaraçosa became Christian city and the most important city of the Aragón´s kingdom.

THE MODERN PERIOD OF ZARAGOZA • It lasted three centuries: from 1492 aD to 1778 aD. • In this period, the city was called Saragosa, the pronunciation of Çaragoça. • Fernando, the king of Aragón, and Isabel, the queen of Castilla, married in 1469,so theirkingdom probably was the most importantkingdom in the Spanish history, and Saragosa, the most important city in Spain in that period. • At the end of this period,the Independence War between Spain and France started.
ZARAGOZA: THE CURRENT CITY. • It has lasted from 1778 aD up to now . • Zaragoza has grown a lot , and now there are 700.000 people living there. • The Ebro river has kept its name. , • This year is going to be the International Exposition of Zaragoza around it. The topic of the EXPO is water and sustainable development.
