BACKGROUND • 1962: First Wal-Mart in Rogers, Ark., opens. • 1969: Incorporated as Wal-Mart sores, Inc. • 1970: First distribution center and home office in Bentoville, Ark.; Wal-Mart goes public on the New York Stock Exchange • 1983: Sam’s Club opened in Midwest City, Okla. • 1988: First Supercenter opened in Washington, Mo.

  2. BACKGROUND cont. • 1990: Wal-Mart becomes nation’s No. 1 retailer • 1991 first international unit openes in Mexico City • During the 1990’s Wal-Mart enters other countries like Brazil, Argentina, Canada, United Kingdom and China.

  4. HUMAN RESOURCESPAST • In the past there was not a lot of technology in companies, that is why things might differ form what is right now. There are several differences that will be discussed during this presentation, being focused in what is the human resources side of the company.

  5. HUMAN RESOURCESPAST • Applications submited at store • Resumes submited handwritten • Applications and resumes filed in folders • In-person interviews • Spend a lot of time looking at each resume • Knowlodge of computers and technology not required.

HUMAN RESOURCESPRESENT • Available positions posted on the Internet • Applications can be send online • Some interviews are done by phone • Send resumes by the Internt • Search for keywords in resumes, to make faster the process of selection • Spent less time looking at each resume • Depending on position, requires to have knowlodge of computer programs

  7. HUMAN RESOURCESFUTURE • Applications and resumes will still be sent by internet • Interview will be held online, instead of doing them in person • It will be necessary to have knowlodge of computer systems

  8. CONCLUSION • Day after day technology keeps improving and it has impact in companies, helping the process of hiring to be faster. This improve in technology makes people to ask for more requirements when hiring.
