Exploring Light Properties: Visible and Invisible Energies

Discover the properties of light - a form of energy that can travel through vacuum in straight lines at immense speeds. Learn about luminous and non-luminous objects, light rays, and the visible and electromagnetic spectrums, from radio waves to gamma rays. Unveil the colorful world of the visible spectrum and understand the different frequencies of light. Explore how light interacts with matter and shapes our perception of the world around us in this enlightening journey.

  1. Chapter 3Visible (可見) and Invisible (不可見) Light Properties (特性) of Light Light is a form of energy. Light can travel through vacuum. (真空) Light travels in straight lines. (直線) Speed of light in vacuum is 3 x 108 m/s.

  2. Light is a form of energy (能量)

  3. Light can travel through vacuum. (真空) sun

  4. Light travels in straight line. (直線) 維多利亞港海旁舉行的「幻彩詠香江」表演

  5. Light travels in high speed. 在真空中,光的傳播速率約為 每秒30 萬公里(3×108 m/s)

  6. light bulb candle the Sun Luminous objects (發光體): They can emit (發出) their own light.

  7. books moon Non-luminous objects: (不發光體) • They cannot emit their own light. • They are seen because they reflect (反射) light to our eyes.

  8. Light ray (光線) and Light beam (光束) arrow (箭咀) : direction (方向) of light ray Parallel beam (平行光束)

  9. Diverging beam 發散光束 Converging beam 會聚光束

  10. Ray diagrams: (a) parallel平行rays (c) diverging 發散rays (b) converging會聚rays

  13. RED, ORANGE, YELLOW, GREEN, BLUE, INDIGO, VIOLET Low Frequency High Frequency dark color spectrum dark

  14. Electromagnetic Spectrum (電磁波譜) lowest frequency highest frequency

  15. Electromagnetic spectrum: • 1. Radio Waves (無線電波) lowest freq. • 2. Microwaves (微波) • 3. Infra-red rays (紅外線) • 4. Visible Light (可見光) • 5. Ultra-violet rays (紫外線) • 6. X-rays (X光) • 7. Gamma rays (伽瑪射線) highest freq. Note: We can see the visible light only.
