What are observatories used for? • Observatories are used for looking around in the sky in either in the visible light spectrum or by using different wavelengths that celestial objects emit (usually infrared). • It captures light to bring us the amazing pictures we see today.
Hubble telescope • The Hubble Space Telescope's launch in 1990 sped humanity to one of its greatest advances in that journey. Hubble is a telescope that orbits Earth. Its position above the atmosphere, which distorts and blocks the light that reaches our planet, gives it a view of the universe that typically far surpasses that of ground-based telescopes.
Keck observatory • Keck is not one but two reflector telescopes perched atop Mauna Kea. Keck is used to see in the infrared spectrum. It also has the ability to combine the sight of the two telescope to form clearer images. Keck is also the second largest optical telescope in the world. • The Observatory headquarters is an architecture-award-winning facility located on a 7-acre campus in Waimea on the Big Island of Hawaii. Named by the 2000 Robb Report as one of the 10 most desirable places to live in the country, this charming town of 6,000 sits 2,500 feet above sea level and offers a peaceful, rural lifestyle, a benign climate, excellent schools, and freedom from the frenetic pace so characteristic of much of the mainland United States
What I've learned • Hubble- Hubble is definitely one of my favorite telescope. It brought us so many amazing pictures that are very clear. It may have been a challenge but it was well worth it in my eyes. • Keck- Keck is one of the best observatories in the world for viewing the infrared spectrum. One of the most interesting facts about it is that it can combine its visual strength to have much clearer images. It’s amazing how it uses 2 huge mirrors to collect the light.
