Proverbs 12. Proverbs 12 The wise and the foolish. The Basis of Learning. (Prov 12:1 NKJV) Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid. (Prov 12:1 TLB) To learn, you must want to be taught. To refuse reproof is stupid.

  3. The Basis of Learning • (Prov 12:1 NKJV) Whoever loves instruction loves knowledge, But he who hates correction is stupid. • (Prov 12:1 TLB) To learn, you must want to be taught.To refuse reproof is stupid.

  4. The good and wicked contrasted • (Prov 12:2 NKJV) A good man obtains favor from the LORD, But a man of wicked intentions He will condemn. • (Prov 12:2 TLB) The Lord blesses good men and condemns the wicked.

  5. The good and wicked contrasted • (Prov 12:3 NKJV) A man is not established by wickedness,But the root of the righteous cannot be moved. • (Prov 12:3 TLB) Wickedness never brings real success; only the godly have that.

  6. Wives: Negative & Positive • (Prov 12:4 NKJV) An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, But she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones. • (Prov 12:4 TLB) A worthy wife is her husband's joy and crown; the other kind corrodes his strength and tears down everything he does.

  7. As a man thinks in his heart. • (Prov 12:5 NKJV) The thoughts of the righteous are right, But the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. • (Prov 12:5 TLB) A good man's mind is filled with honest thoughts; an evil man's mind is crammed with lies. • (Prov 23:7 NKJV) For as he thinks in his heart, so is he.

  8. A matter of life and Death • (Prov 12:6 NKJV) The words of the wicked are, "Lie in wait for blood," But the mouth of the upright will deliver them. • (Prov 12:6 NCV) The wicked talk about killing people, but the words of good people will save them.

  9. The Righteous Continue • (Prov 12:7 NKJV) The wicked are overthrown and are no more, But the house of the righteous will stand. • (Prov 12:7 NCV) Wicked people die and they are no more, but a good person's family continues.

  10. Wisdom is commendable • (Prov 12:8 NKJV) A man will be commended according to his wisdom,But he who is of a perverse heart will be despised. • (Prov 12:8 TLB) Everyone admires a man with good sense, but a man with a warped mind is despised.

  11. Lack of Humility accomplishes nothing • (Prov 12:9 NKJV) Better is the one who is slighted but has a servant, Than he who honors himself but lacks bread. • (Prov 12:9 NCV) A person who is not important but has a servant is better off than someone who acts important but has no food.

  12. Good people are kind • (Prov 12:10 NIV) A righteous man cares for the needs of his animal, • but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. • (Prov 12:10 NCV) Good people take care of their animals, but even the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.

  13. Hard work pays off • (Prov 12:11 NKJV) He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding. • (Prov 12:11 NCV) Those who work their land will have plenty of food, but the one who chases empty dreams is not wise.

  14. Wanting what isn’t yours • (Prov 12:12 NKJV) The wicked covet the catch of evil men, But the root of the righteous yields fruit. • (Prov 12:12 NCV) The wicked want what other evil people have stolen, but good people want to give what they have to others.

  15. Careless talk causes problems • (Prov 12:13 NKJV) The wicked is ensnared by the transgression of his lips, But the righteous will come through trouble. • (Prov 12:13 NCV) Evil people are trapped by their evil talk, but good people stay out of trouble.

  16. Hard work and good speech are rewarding • (Prov 12:14 NKJV) A man will be satisifed with good by the fruit of his mouth, And the recompense of a man's hands will be rendered to him. • (Prov 12:14 TLB) Telling the truth gives a man great satisfaction, and hard work returns many blessings to him.

  17. Self Deception is Defeating • (Prov 12:15 NKJV) The way of a fool is right in his own eyes, But he who heeds counsel is wise. • (Prov 12:15 TLB) A fool thinks he needs no advice, but a wise man listens to others.

  18. Self Control is so important • (Prov 12:16 NKJV) A fool's wrath is known at once,But a prudent man covers shame. • (Prov 12:16 TLB) A fool is quick-tempered;a wise man stays cool when insulted.

  19. The importance of truth • (Prov 12:17 NKJV) He who speaks truth declares righteousness, But a false witness, deceit. • (Prov 12:17 TLB) A good man is known by his truthfulness; a false man by deceit and lies.

  20. Cutting Words and Remarks • (Prov 12:18 NKJV) There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, But the tongue of the wise promotes health. • (Prov 12:18 TLB) Some people like to make cutting remarks, but the words of the wise soothe and heal.

  21. Truth lasts – Lies will be exposed • (Prov 12:19 NKJV) The truthful lip shall be established forever, But a lying tongue is but for a moment. • (Prov 12:19 TLB) Truth stands the test of time; lies are soon exposed.

  22. Peace and Joy are so important • (Prov 12:20 NKJV) Deceit is in the heart of those who devise evil,But counselors of peace have joy. • (Prov 12:20 TLB) Deceit fills hearts that are plotting for evil; joy fills hearts that are planning for good!

  23. Problems for the Evil • (Prov 12:21 NKJV) No grave trouble will overtake the righteous, But the wicked shall be filled with evil. • (Prov 12:21 TLB) No real harm befalls the good, but there is constant trouble for the wicked.

  24. God is looking for Honesty • (Prov 12:22 NKJV) Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD,But those who deal truthfully are His delight. • (Prov 12:22 TLB) God delights in those who keep their promises and abhors those who don't.

  25. Be Wise What You Say • (Prov 12:23 NKJV) A prudent man conceals knowledge, But the heart of fools proclaims foolishness. • (Prov 12:23 TLB) A wise man doesn't display his knowledge, but a fool displays his foolishness.

  26. Laziness leads to slavery • (Prov 12:24 NKJV) The hand of the diligent will rule, But the lazy man will be put to forced labor. • (Prov 12:24 TLB) Work hard and become a leader; be lazy and never succeed. • (Prov 12:24 NCV) Hard workers will become leaders, but those who are lazy will be slaves.

  27. Words of encouragement • (Prov 12:25 NKJV) Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad. • (Prov 12:25 TLB) Anxious hearts are very heavy, but a word of encouragement does wonders!

  28. Choose friends carefully • (Prov 12:26 NKJV) The righteous should choose his friends carefully, For the way of the wicked leads them astray. • (Prov 12:26 TLB) The good man asks advice from friends; (A bit of a stretch)the wicked plunge ahead--and fall.

  29. A good work ethic is important • (Prov 12:27 NKJV) The lazy man does not roast what he took in hunting, But diligence is man's precious possession. • (Prov 12:27 TLB) A lazy man won't even dress the game he gets while hunting, but the diligent man makes good use of everything he finds.

  30. Righteousness leads to life • (Prov 12:28 NKJV) In the way of righteousness is life, And in its pathway there is no death. • (Prov 12:28 TLB) The path of the godly leads to life. So why fear death?

  31. Why Study Proverbs? • (Jer 10:23-24 NKJV) O LORD, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps. {24} O LORD, correct me, but with justice;Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.
