By the end of the workshop, you will: • Understand what time management is about. • Know guidelines for managing time effectively. • Be able to schedule time in the long, intermediate and short term. • Know how to plan study schedule. • Plan study schedules for the short, intermediate/long term.

  2. Time management is • setting and following a schedule of study • in order to efficiently organise yourself • in achieving goals • in the context of your life’s activities and resources.

  3. Time Management Guidelines • Monitor • Reflect • Be aware of time wasting • Know when you are productive • Have a (short) “To Do” list. • Have a daily/weekly planner. • Have a long term planner.

  4. Prioritise and Organise In order to manage your time effectively and efficiently, • prioritise the importance of tasks you have to do; • organise your time to do them; • know what is urgent and what is important.

  6. Planning your Use of Time 1. Identify the goal. 2. Divide the overall job into manageable tasks. 3. Identify an outcome for each task. 4. Calculate a time for each new task. 5. Timetable the tasks. 6. A contingency plan.

  7. Planning Study Time -How Long? • A rough starting guide, for every hour in class, you should plan to study for two hours outside of class. Then adjust up or down as necessary. • Plan blocks of time (e.g. 50 mins study followed by a 10 mins break).

  8. Planning Study Time -What For? • Be specific about what you want to accomplish in each study period. • Congratulate yourself when you have accomplished the task. • Re-assess your schedule when you have not.
