  1. Television Log Analysis The Marketing Pitch Veronica Monteyro, Celine Ruth Glenn Austin Simoneau and Brandon Bolarihno Totten-Greenwood/Block Four October 24th, 2008

  2. ThePopulation Poll is: The teenagers, both male and female, of: Joshuah Totten-Greenwood’s fourth block Visual Literacy and Television class. fifteen through eighteen This class completed a television log survey that stated their: favorite television shows, what they like about them, when they watch them and why they watch them Ages

  3. What are teenagers saying? • “I think that by watching ‘That 70’s Show’, it would give future citizens an accurate example of teenagers in the 1970s. They’d see the different clothing styles, and they’d see how less technologically developed time was compared to theirs.” • -Veronica Monteyro, student • “I am a fan of the show Heroes. I really like the fantasy elements of it like the powers that each character has and how they all interact with each other.” • - Dan Farrell, student The results from the survey showed that the class’s top five favorite shows are: Family Guy King of Queens The Office That 70’s Show Heroes

  4. That 70’s Show The Hills Wipeout Danny Phantom Family Guy Reba The Fairly Odd Parents Kids Next Door Chowder America’s Most Wanted Law and Order Ghost Hunters One Tree Hill NFL Patriots Game George Lopez Home Improvement Family Matters America’s Funniest Home Videos Country Fried Home Videos Nanny 911 Dora the Explorer MLB Red Sox Game South Park King of Queens Sports Center Billy Madison Hole in the Wall Cake Cook Off Jon and Kate Plus 8 Cash Cab Man vs. Wild Family Matters Fresh Prince of Bel Air The Office All shows recorded in the log

  5. What channels are the shows on?

  6. THE MALE GENDER The TV log shows that male teenagers like to watch more comedy related shows. They enjoy shows such as: Family Guy, King of Queens, That 70’s Show, and South Park. These shows are always telling jokes which male teens take pleasure in and sometimes can relate to.

  7. The Female Gender Female teenagers (ages 15 to 18) are known to watch more “girly” shows and reality television. The results from this log prove this to be true. One female’s log showed her watching the show The Hills, which is known for its feminine qualities and drama. Reality TV such as, Jon and Kate Plus 8, have also been recorded. TV networks generally target women for certain shows because they know that the women can “relate” to the drama and relationships that are portrayed.

  8. Times that teenage females are watching television From the TV log, teenage girls in our class are watching during these times: Sunday - 6 am, 7 pm, and 8 pm Monday – 5 pm, 6 pm, 8 pm, 10 pm, 11 pm, and Midnight Tuesday – 5 pm, 8 pm, 11 pm, and Midnight Wednesday – 2 pm, 9 pm, 11 pm, and Midnight Thursday – 6 am, 6 pm ,7 pm ,8 pm ,9 pm, 10 pm,11 pm, and Midnight Friday – 2 pm, and 5pm Saturday - 9 pm

  9. Times that teenage males are watching television From the TV log, teenage boys in our class are watching during these times: Sunday – 4 pm, 8 pm, and 9 pm Monday – 6 am, 9 pm, and 10 pm Tuesday – 7 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm Wednesday – 4 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm Thursday – 4 pm, 7 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm, and 10 pm Friday – 7 pm, 8 pm, and 9 pm Saturday – 7 pm, 8 pm, 9 pm, and 11 pm

  10. Viewers Percentages The following four slides show a closer look at what times viewers were watching their TV programs. Out of a class of 28, only 11 had filled out their TV log. So, percentages were out of 11. Times are shown Sunday to Saturday 6 am to Midnight and later.

  11. Weekday Percentages Tuesdays from 7 to 9 pm were the most popular times to be watching TV according to the TV Log results. *These percentages are based out of 11 people.

  12. Weekend Percentages The weekend percentage, specifically on Saturday from 9 pm to 10 pm, is the only percentage that surpassed 30%. The reason this may be the highest is because it is a weekend night. Most teenagers have nothing early to wake up for on Sunday and are able to stay up past 10pm on Saturday nights. On the Weekday log, 10 out of 12 nights recorded, about 9% of the class are watching TV. This proves that teenagers stay up later on weekends.

  13. Male percentages for showtimes These results show that the most popular times for male teens to be watching television was on Wednesday night from 8 to 10 pm. *These percentages are based out of 11 people.

  14. Female percentages for showtimes These results show that the most popular time for teenage girls to be watching television is on Thursday evenings from 9 pm to Midnight. *These percentages are based out of 11 people.

  15. Accuracy The noted samples were taken out of a TV Log assignment from a month prior. The data recorded does not portray an accurate reading of what teenagers truly “like” and “do not like”. It is simply a sample taken from a population, but seeing that there were only 11 respondents, it does not give an accurate reading.
