How Does The Fortune Fish Move? By: Nia, Jordan, Sarah, and Michael
Hypothesis + Variable Definitions Hypothesis definition-A testable statement. if independent variable then dependant variable because. Independent variable- variable changing Dependent variable- variable affected by change Constant variable- variable that does not change Control- group that is controlled stays the same
Hypothesis + Variables Hypothesis-If the surface temperature increase, then the fish’s rate of movement will increase, because the heat would increase the movement of the fish. Dependent-How fast the fish moves Independent-The temperature of the surface
Observation Definition The act of watching something to see it’s movements.
Observations • Fish - Red, 9.2 cm long, 2.5 cm wide. • Fish With Cold Water - Laid flat, No movement • Fish With Room Temp. Water - Laid flat, No movement • Fish With Hot Water - Curled up completely
Materials List 1. 3 Fish 2. 3 Petri Dishes 3. Ice water 4. Plastic wrap 5. Thermometer 6. Hot Plate 7. Room temperature water 8. Tap Water
Procedure Procedure: An act or a manor of proceeding in any action or process 1. Make sure to have all materials ready and accessible 2. Fill three petri dishes with water. One dish with room temperature water, one with very cold water, and the last one with hot water 3. Place plastic wrap on top of the petri dishes so the plastic is flat on the water 4. Gently place each fish on top of the petri and time how long it takes the fish to move 5. Record the data observed during the experiment
Data Data: Individual fact, statistics, or items of information
Analysis Definition A detailed examination of the elements or structure of something, typically as a basis for discussion or interpretation.
Analysis In the room temperature water and the cold water they both did not cause reactions to the fish. We were very surprised that the cold water had not moved the fish at all. We were more surprised when the fish did not react to the room temperature water.
Conclusion Definition The end or finish of an event or process
Conclusion Our conclusion for this experiment is that the hotter the temperature, the faster the fish moves. Our data corresponds with our hypothesis perfectly. We saw in our data that when we increased the temperature the fish moved fast and curled up all the way in comparison to the other two fish who’s temperature did not affect them .
