4 P’s of Communication • Passion will ignite your speaking ability • You cannot light a fire without a match • Preparation will enhance your odds of success • Research, Write, Speak, Edit, Streamline • Prayer will get you to the top of the mountain • Pray without ceasing • Polishing your message will get you to the other side • Practice, Practice, Practice, and then practice again • Communicators must get up and speak again and again • The thrill of victory can only be obtained through trial and error and then the realization of victory Created by Glenn Pennington 05/20/2012
Speech Structure • Write and deliver your speech in a logical manner • An attention getting opening, a solid middle, and a strong close • Know your audience • Age, gender, likes, dislikes, etc. • Understand how your speech affects the audience • Observe their verbal and non-verbal reactions and adjust accordingly Created by Glenn Pennington 05/20/2012
Best Practices • Before • Practice your speech out loud at least 3x’s • Get adequate rest • Drink plenty of water (no soda’s or alcohol) • Take deep breaths prior to going on stage • During • Pause throughout your presentation • Emphasize important words • Utilize vocal variety • Make eye contact • After • Have a brief question & answer session • Allow time to pass out business cards • Have copies of your speech available for reference Created by Glenn Pennington 05/20/2012
