  16. Board QuickCheck Baldrige-Based Self-Assessment for the Board of Education The purpose of the Board QuickCheck is to provide a quick evaluation of the school as a learning system complete with an action plan for getting started.

  17. LEADERSHIP We work with key stakeholders to develop a School Board mission statement that supports the state and district mission. YES*TBA In the process

  18. STAKEHOLDER FOCUS We have surveyed our stakeholders to determine the degree of satisfaction with the Board’s level of performance. YES*TBA Sometimes

Board Improvement Process • Validate the need for school board improvement (consult QuickCheck). • Clarify and communicate board mission, goals, and measures. • Adopt and deploy an approach of continual improvement for all board work. • Translate the approach to aligned action by every board member. • Analyze results and make improvements. • Repeat the cycle.

  30. When school districts apply the principles and techniques of continuous improvement over time, positive and lasting changes in all parts of the system (including student learning) are dramatic.

Review the District Strategic Plan • Train for and utilize the Baldrige framework (7 Categories) • Baldrige in the classroom for teachers and principals (building on Action Research) • Iowa Recognition for Performance Excellence examiner training for supervisors • PDSA as the process improvement model for data driven decisions • Develop and utilize a school improvement planning format that is… • Based on Baldrige (and meets Iowa DE requirements) • Reviewed quarterly and at the end of each year
