Geography of Spain • The Iberian Peninsula is located in South West Europe. • It includes the countries of Portugal, Spain, Andorra and the British colony of Gibraltar. • Spain occupies around 85% of the Iberian Peninsula. • The Bay of Biscay, France and Andorra lie to the North of Spain, the Mediterranean Sea to the East, the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean to the South and the Atlantic Ocean and Portugal to the West. • The Strait of Gibraltar which lies to the South West separates Spain from Africa. • The Pyrenees separate Spain from France and are the country's principal mountain range
Oceanic Climate - Along the northern Atlantic coast the climate is usually quite cool and damp. Temperatures here are 9°C in winter and 18°C in summer. This is the wettest part of the peninsula. • Mountain Climate – experience temperatures of 10'5°C in winter and summer. • Continental Climate – experiences low temperatures in winter (between -15°C and -20°C) and high temperatures in summer (30°C - 40°C). In Madrid the local saying is that the climate is "9 months of winter and 3 months of hell" which describes the freezing winters and scorching summers. • Mediterranean Climate – experiences temperatures of 11°C in winter and 23 °C in summer. • Arid Climate – experience temperatures of 14°C in winter and 22°C in summer.
