Participant Expectations • Discuss the commitment of time and energy • Discuss behavioral expectations and working in groups • Discuss learning expectations • Parent note to be signed and returned September
Problem Solving • Have a problem solving strategy • Understand the scenario problem • Discuss solution possibilities using the listed suggestions • Think creatively and make it fun • Break the problem into smaller tasks • Assign the tasks to specific students • Make a plan and a timeline Competition Day 1
Keep Organized • Start every day with a progress check • Set daily goals • Everyone needs to know their responsibility • File organization and backups • Graphic organizer(s) • Keep on the timeline Competition Every Day
Find Good Information • Assist with Internet searching strategies • Explore other information sources • Discuss what they are finding • Print out what they find • Document every source • Start the bibliography Competition Week 1
Writing • Review the Information section in the CQ Rubric • What to put on the slides (short and to the point) • What they will say (provides the details) • Make it interesting • Spell check • Use slide notes Competition Week 2
The PowerPoint KISS • Review the Presentation section in the CQ Rubric • Have good information • Select a light colored background • Add appropriate graphics only when needed • Skip the fancy stuff Competition Week 2
Presentation Skills • Review the Speaking section in the CQ Rubric • Voice projection and gestures • Eye contact • Notes vs. memorization • Practice in front of each other • Practice with an audience (Thursday) • Practice at home Competition Week Three
Presentation Day • Time, transportation, food, clothing • Act responsibly and courteously • Kids’ Fair next door • Bring parents, grandparents… • Be proud of what was accomplished in three weeks of work Competition Day
