80/20 Grading Policy Move to standards-based education 80% of a student’s grade is from assessments 20% of a student’s grade is from practice/daily work Assessments can be made up within 5 days of being returned Daily work is not accepted late for credit (unless from an excused absence) but will be required as practice before redoing an assessment Final deadline for makeup work (absent and re-done assessments) is five days before end of first quarter, then 10 days before end of semester for second half of the semester's work
CORE/CHOICE Every Tuesday through Friday after second period for 25 minutes • CORE • For students with D’s or F’s in their classes • Students rotate through every 3-4 weeks after a grade check • Work with teacher during CORE to complete work • CHOICE • For students with A’s, B’s and C’s • Space available in the commons, library, teachers’ classes • Choice students can also meet with teachers during this time
Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) • Purpose is to improve student achievement • Every Monday, one-hour late start district wide • Teachers meet during this time to improve curriculum, discuss assessments, evaluate student progress and adjust lessons accordingly • Begins in October • Check district calendar for exact dates

High School Proficiency Exam (HSPE) • March 18-19 is writing; March 20 is reading • How is my student being prepared to take the test? • HSPE-style questions during all units • Explicit HSPE prep unit before test • Lots of examples! • Check out OSPI’s website for more info
