Work with what they give you. • Read all quotations in the box. • Try to decide what they say about the topic (word you need to define) • Decide which quote you want to use. • Determine the main idea of the quote. • Write the main idea in a sentence or two. That is your thesis.
Strong thesis statements: • Take a stand (no back and forth) • Justifies discussion (prove your topic is controversial) • Expresses one main idea • Is specific- (what exactly are you focusing on?)
