  5. Minilesson- How to write an effective thesis? For Definition Prompts

  6. Work with what they give you. • Read all quotations in the box. • Try to decide what they say about the topic (word you need to define) • Decide which quote you want to use. • Determine the main idea of the quote. • Write the main idea in a sentence or two. That is your thesis.

  7. Strong thesis statements: • Take a stand (no back and forth) • Justifies discussion (prove your topic is controversial) • Expresses one main idea • Is specific- (what exactly are you focusing on?)

  8. Teacher Modeling • Writing your definition Essay- starting with an introduction and thesis.

  9. Your Turn Begin Writing your Definition Essay on Culture. Start with your introduction. Write a strong thesis.

  10. What’s your FRAME? Pd 1 Conversation Quiet voices with your partner or the teacher only. Help each other. If you need more assistance, Raise your hand And I will come to you. Help Activity Brainstorm and create your FRAME. Be neat and thoughtful. Movement You may sharpen pencils and get supplies as needed Complete all parts of the activity. Keep sidebars to a minimum.
